Should you exercise on holidays?
Do you exercise whilst on holiday?
I am just back from two glorious weeks in Thailand and I enjoyed 20-30 minutes of exercise each morning to set me up for a great day. You might laugh at the thought of exercising on holidays but hear me out.
Many of us live our normal day to day lives feeling out of balance, lacking the time to exercise, feeling highly stressed and struggling to get a full night of sleep. A holiday is a beautiful opportunity to rediscover that balance ( and still have a great relaxing time).
Once I learned what exercise does for your brain health, you no longer think too much about the calories or aesthetics benefits.
Research shows us that,
- Exercise improves your mood
- It improves your ability to connect socially
- To increase your resilience to stress
- Supports you to have a great night of sleep &
- Reduces harmful inflammation in the body
Exercising for just 20 minutes or so each morning on holiday put me in a great headspace for the day ahead, helped me to have some amazing sleeps and with no guilt went to town on the breakfast buffet.
How to exercise on holidays?
You don’t have to over do it, aim for 20 minutes and anything more than that is a bonus
Do it in the morning so that you get it out of the way and enjoy the benefits of exercise for the rest of the day
Find some exercise you enjoy, maybe do some exercise you haven’t done in a while, tennis anyone?
If you can do it with someone else that's even better
If it’s not too hot, exercise outside in the fresh air
